Embark on a breathtaking journey deep into the Atacama Highlands. The Piedras Rojas (Red Rocks) tour takes you to the stunning Salar de Talar, where striking rust-colored volcanic rocks contrast intensely against milky turquoise waters and the surrounding Andes mountains. Along the route, we visit the Chaxa Lagoon in the National Flamingo Reserve, the Tropic of Capricorn, and the mesmerizing Altiplanic Lagoons (Miscanti and Miñiques).

The Route

Morning Departure & Tropic of Capricorn

Early pickup from your San Pedro hotel. We begin our ascent toward the highlands, stopping for a memorable photograph at the Tropic of Capricorn line.

Wildlife Chaxa Lagoon (Flamingos)

We head into the Atacama Salt Flat to visit Chaxa Lagoon. Here, you'll witness different species of Andean flamingos feeding in their natural habitat while enjoying a prepared breakfast.

Nature Altiplanic Lagoons

Ascend past 4,000 meters to visit the spectacular Miscanti and Miñiques lagoons. These twin bodies of deep blue water rest at the base of imposing volcanoes, offering dramatic reflections.

Highlight Piedras Rojas (Salar de Talar)

Arrive at the famous Red Rocks. Walk near the vibrant, oxidized stone formations surrounding the pale aquamarine waters of the salt flat. An absolute paradise for photographers.

Afternoon Lunch & Return

Enjoy lunch in a local Andean village setting (Socaire) before making our descent back down the winding roads, arriving in San Pedro de Atacama in the late afternoon.

Frequent Questions

Is this tour suitable for everyone?

Because we ascend to altitudes exceeding 4,000 meters (13,000+ ft), this tour is not recommended for pregnant women, children under 7, or individuals with severe heart conditions or hypertension.

What should I wear?

The weather changes drastically. It is very cold in the morning but gets warmer by midday. Dress in layers (thermal base, fleece, windbreaker jacket). Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat are strictly mandatory.

How much are the entrance fees?

You will need to pay separate entrances for Chaxa Lagoon, Miscanti/Miñiques, and Piedras Rojas. Altogether, expect to spend around 25,000 CLP per person. You must buy these tickets online in advance or bring cash depending on current park regulations.
