Expedition Overview
Rise before the sun and venture into the high Andes to witness the third-largest geyser field in the world. At 4,320 meters above sea level, Geyser del Tatio is a geothermal wonder where boiling water and steam erupt violently against the freezing early morning air, creating a breathtaking and surreal landscape.
The Route
4:30 AM Early Departure
Pickup directly from your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama. We start early to catch the geysers at their most active state.
6:30 AM Geothermal Spectacle
Arrive at the geothermal field just as the sun begins to rise. The contrast between the cold air and boiling water creates massive pillars of steam.
8:00 AM Andean Breakfast
Enjoy a prepared breakfast served right in the geothermal field, warming up while taking in the high-altitude scenery.
9:30 AM Machuca Village
On the descent, we stop at the Putana wetland to observe native wildlife like vicuñas and flamingos, followed by a visit to the traditional village.
12:00 PM Return to San Pedro
Arrival back in the center of San Pedro de Atacama with the rest of the day free.

Frequent Questions
How cold does it get at the Geysers?
Very cold! Because of the high altitude and early hour, temperatures often drop below freezing (sometimes as low as -15°C or 5°F). You must dress in multiple warm layers, including gloves, a beanie, and a heavy jacket.
How much is the entrance fee?
The entrance fee is not included in the tour price and must be paid in cash (Chilean Pesos) at the gate. It is approximately 15,000 CLP per person.
Can I swim in the thermal pools?
Currently, the thermal pool at Geyser del Tatio is often closed for conservation and safety reasons. Please confirm with your guide on the day of the tour.
